COMMISSIONING A PORTRAIT WITH SCIENCE OF SKETCHING
Commissioning a portrait
Experience the Timeless Art of Portraiture
A commissioned portrait is more than an image — it’s an heirloom. It captures not just likeness but essence, emotion, and story, preserving your presence for generations.
Portraits have held a sacred place in culture since the dawn of art — from classical oils to modern graphite sketches. Unlike photographs, a portrait reflects the artist’s interpretation and emotion, adding depth and poetry that endures.
At Science of Sketching, we blend traditional drawing principles with a unique artistic approach to create realistic yet soulful portraits — where patience, observation, and artistry meet to craft something deeply personal.
The Artists Behind the Portraits
Rohit Kishan — Founder & Lead Artist
Founder of Science of Sketching and a grandson of Radhakrishnan, Rohit Kishan is known for his ability to capture truth and feeling through subtle lines and tones.
With over three decades of practice, his portraits merge precision and sensitivity, reflecting a deep respect for classical sketching traditions.
Rohit believes every face tells a story — and that drawing is a way to see more clearly, not merely to reproduce what we see.
Beyond his art, he mentors students across India and the world, nurturing creativity through Science of Sketching programs.
Anup Singh — Apprentice & Emerging Artist
Under Rohit’s mentorship, Anup Singh represents the next generation of portrait artists.
His work is defined by discipline, patience, and a sharp eye for proportion and personality.
Anup contributes to select commissions while refining his skill daily — embodying the spirit of growth, humility, and dedication that defines the studio.
Materials & Options
The medium used is charcoal.
Portraits are executed on Arches Hot-Pressed (HP) 100% cotton paper from France, 56 × 76 cm, 300 GSM.
This archival-grade paper offers a smooth, vellum-like surface with superior dimensional stability, high wet and dry strength, and excellent charcoal adherence, ensuring precise detail retention and long-term preservation of tonal subtleties.
Each commission can include one or two faces, depending on your preference, and the artwork measures 56 × 76 cm (length × width).
Frame Details
Delivered in a modern black or white rectangular frame, minimalist and balanced.
The frame adds roughly 1 inch per side (final size: ~58 × 78 cm), enhancing the artwork without distraction.
You may choose to reframe the piece later to suit your space — complete flexibility for your personal aesthetic.
Pricing
The cost of a commissioned portrait depends on the number of faces in the artwork.
Single-face portrait is priced at INR 56,050
Two-face portrait is priced at INR 78,470.
Both prices are inclusive of all taxes, art materials, and professional packing.
