About Us

Science of Sketching began in 2017 in the quiet village of Bhagsunag, founded by Rohit Kishan. What started as a casual sketching space soon evolved into a structured studio with a deep purpose: to teach people how to truly see. Rooted in a precise and mindful method, the approach felt almost scientific – and so the name was born. Using just charcoal and paper, Rohit began guiding students to sharpen their observation and focus. Today, we remain grounded in simplicity, offering focused, technical training that brings together art, awareness, and the joy of creation.

Our Philosophy

Science of Sketching is about the belief that anyone can create.

We believe that sketching, at its core, is a discipline of the mind. Long before pencil touches paper, the act of seeing, truly seeing, must take place. That’s where it begins.

In a world rushing toward noise and speed, we return to the basics: stillness, attention, clarity. With nothing more than charcoal and paper, we invite you into a space where observation becomes meditation, and creation becomes an act of presence.

We train your eye and hand by regulating the breath and the ability to focus. Every stroke is a reflection of your state of mind. Every subject is a lesson in depth, contrast, and patience.

Our method blends art with science. We teach you to measure proportions, study light, and analyse shadows, all while staying grounded in the experience. It is technical. It is intuitive. It is about restoring the belief that you can create.

What makes us different

At Science of Sketching, we go deeper in our classes. Our approach is focused, meditative, and precise.

Charcoal as the Core Medium
We work exclusively with charcoal, a raw and expressive medium that requires control, clarity, and presence. It’s demanding, yet incredibly forgiving, making it perfect for beginners and experienced artists.

A Scientific Approach to Art
Rohit Kishan’s journey into meditation forms the foundation of the Science of Sketching teaching methodology. It was through meditation that he discovered and shaped this unique approach to learning and observation.

Training the Eye and Hand
Slow down. Observe deeply. Every line you draw is a conversation between your eyes and your hands.
We train you to see better-so your hands follow with clarity and confidence.

Sketching as Mental Practice
More than making art, it’s training the mind. Each stroke sharpens your focus. Each session quiets the noise. Sketching teaches you to observe deeply, respond slowly, and create with purpose. This is mindfulness in motion.

Rooted in the Natural World
Based in Dharamkot, our studio is nestled in the heart of nature. It’s not just a place to learn – it’s a space to observe, slow down, and reconnect.

Our Studio

Tucked into the hillside village of Dharamkot, our studio is located centrally under the beautiful shade of open skies, and the quiet rhythm of the mountains. The space is intentionally simple: just charcoal, light, silence, and soft instrumental music allowing students to tune into their senses without distraction.

This studio is more than a room. It’s a space for stillness, awareness, and honest creation.

Meet the team

Science of Sketching is run and managed by a small team of individuals from diverse backgrounds- artists, thinkers, designers, and educators who all believe in the quiet power of focused creation.

Each person brings a unique perspective to the studio, but we’re united by one thing: that learning to see can change how you live, think, and create. And that believing in your ability to create can shift something deep within.

Some of us teach. Some of us draw. Some help run the space. All of us are here to support your journey.

Come by and say hello – we’d love to meet you.
